Day 33: You Here for War or Peace?

Started the day grabbing some e-bikes in Rotorua and cruising through the Redwood Forest 🌲. Weather was giving main-character energy — warm, dry trails even after rain, and the place was stacked with massive trees, ferns, and super lush greenery. Heaps of mountain bikers out there living their best lives on a Sunday.

Later we linked up with a crew of other tourists to check out the Te Pā Tū Māori village — honestly such a cool experience. Got hit with the formal challenge at the entrance (“you here for war or peace?”) and luckily we passed the vibe check and got let in 😌.

Inside we learned about traditional Māori customs and skills, watched some awesome performances with singing and dancing, heard stories about their history and beliefs, and wrapped it all up with a massive feast of local kai 🍽️. Low-key one of the best ways to actually learn about Māori culture instead of just reading about it.
