Flying to Melbourne

We Ubered, Metro’d and trained our way to Sydney Airport by 8am like seasoned campaigners. The plane sat on the ground a while before pushing back, but the flight itself was brisk — and we swapped rainy Sydney gloom for Melbourne sunshine remarkably fast.

We picked up a rental at the airport and drove out to Box Hill. The Airbnb briefly tested our patience on arrival, but we’re settled now, and turning our thoughts, hopefully, to a good dinner.

Worth noticing

That short hop is one of the busiest air corridors on the planet. Sydney–Melbourne regularly ranks among the world’s ten busiest passenger routes and the very busiest in the southern hemisphere, with flights leaving, at peak times, every few minutes. For all the talk of a future fast train between the two cities, for now the aeroplane still does almost all of the carrying.
