Day 64: Served by the Bus Captain

Served by the Bus Captain

Being served by the bus captain? Today we got on bus 680 from Sha Tin to Admiralty and were told we were being served by Bus Captain Chen 😭 yeah apparently that’s what they’re calling bus drivers now. Kinda random but also kinda cool??

Like okay, I get it… driving a bus, flying a plane, steering a ship — same vibes. You gotta keep people safe, get them where they need to go on time, and not cause chaos. Calling them “captain” lowkey gives main character energy, like pilot or cruise ship boss. Probably helps make the job sound more elite too.

But let’s be real for a sec… Captain Chen is definitely not getting pilot money like someone flying a Cathay Pacific jet overhead 💀 and the whole “serving the passengers” vibe disappeared real quick when he started accelerating like he was in Fast & Furious and pulling off before people even sat down 😭

Still, can’t lie — the journey was actually smooth. We went from Sha Tin, through the tunnel, into East Kowloon, then over to Hong Kong Island super quick. No messing about. It was only when we hit Causeway Bay that traffic said “nah” and everything slowed down so much that walking was basically faster.

We did a bit of shopping, then found another “captain” on the 680 to serve us back to the hotel. Whole experience was kinda funny but also kinda iconic not gonna lie 😌
