The Hung Mui Kok BBQ area may not be famous, but it’s actually where the hike through Sha Tin Pass starts. You make your way up to Lion Rock and then down to Kowloon. The local taxi driver from Tai Wai also had never heard of it 💀 till we showed him on Google Maps.
When you do get there, be prepared. It’s basically just straight steps for over an hour going up into the hills and forest. Lost count of the number of steps. Not gonna lie, the climb is kinda brutal, but since it was hot today the shade actually saved us from getting cooked. There were other hikers around too, so it didn’t feel dead.
At the top there’s this covered viewpoint with INSANE views over Kowloon. Actually unreal. We chilled there, had lunch, and somehow the monkeys didn’t bother us (huge W).
Then we headed down towards Wang Tau Hom, but yeah… going downhill on tired legs is not the vibe 😭 way harder than expected so we took it slow. Eventually made it to the bottom, caught a minibus to Festival Walk, then hopped on the train back to Sha Tin.
Whole day was kinda mad but in a good way. Finished it off with a swim in the hotel pool to cool down 😌
