We got drenched but it all started off pretty solid. Good breakfast, nice vibes, everything felt chill. Since it’s Easter, loads of locals were heading to cemeteries to pay respects to family members and ancestors. We were doing the same, so we headed over to West Kowloon (So Uk).
At first the weather was just kinda grey, nothing too dramatic. But by the time we got to the cemetery, the rain went full main-character mode. Water was literally streaming down the steps like mini waterfalls. We still paid our respects the traditional way, bowing while rainwater was basically cascading off the roof onto us. Not exactly the ideal setup 😅
After that we speed-ran our way back through the city to the hotel just to dry off.
Got me thinking about traditions and superstitions too. Our room is on the 20th floor… except it’s not really the 20th floor. There’s no 4th floor. No 13th. 14th? Nope. And even though the top is called the 28th floor, there’s no 24th either.
Apparently it all comes down to superstition. In the West, people think 13 is bad luck. In Chinese culture, numbers like 4, 14 and 24 are avoided because they sound similar to words meaning “death” or “going to die.” And honestly… who’s booking a room on a floor with that kind of energy?
