Slips and detours, but the sun is back and we made it to Mangawhai. 😮💨 Left the old Boathouse at Opua (what great place) with sunshine vibes. Everything was chill until Hukerenui… then boom — SH1 said nope because of flooding 🌊
Had to take a kinda long detour just to get back on the grind. Not gonna lie, these roads seem a bit fragile fr, especially out in the rural bits — steep hills, crazy rain, storm damage… you name it. There’s slips, random closures, and roadworks popping up like side quests. Probably doesn’t help that the roads are twisty, traffic is heavy, and the surfaces are kinda sus.
But W update: weather’s actually decent now we’re further south ☀️ and all the roads here are open, so we move 🚗💨
