Day 43: Kaikohe to Horeke by e-Waka

In case you’re wondering, waka is a Māori word for canoe — but low-key it can mean basically any kind of transport. So for the 6th time on this NZ trip we rented our little e-waka (aka e-bikes ⚡), and honestly it was kinda elite.

We cruised up the hill to Omapere (10/10 coffee btw ☕) and then it was pretty much straight downhill for the next couple hours — which was equal parts vibes and mildly terrifying 😅 — until we hit the boardwalk at Horeke and the Mission House at Mangungu.

Not gonna lie, the track was awesome. Bit sketchy in places, but the signs were clear and there were solid lunch stop spots, so no complaints. Loads of other people had the same idea too — felt like we were all in the same side quest.

Got picked up at the Mission House and driven back to Kaikohe like absolute VIPs 🚐

Weather was a win too — overcast but warm, tiny bit of drizzle, nothing dramatic. Honestly just a top-tier day all round. 🌿
