A trip to Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong

Eighty days? It’s actually pretty wild to think you could now travel around the world in about 80 hours, instead of Phileas Fogg’s 80 days. The real question is… what state would you be in when you got back?
Round-the-world plane tickets do exist (shout-out to oneworld and Star Alliance), but they come with strings attached. You usually have to fully loop the planet—something like Europe → the Americas → back home via the Pacific. They’re great if you want loads of stopovers, and your trip can last anywhere from a few days to a whole year.
The downside? They’re expensive, the stopovers add up fast, and honestly, even one long-haul flight completely messes with my sleep. Add a few more and the jet lag basically ruins the sightseeing experience.
So when it comes to getting to Australia, the plan is simple: get there as fast as possible and get it done. After four weeks there, we’re heading to New Zealand for three weeks, then on to Hong Kong for almost a month.
All in, the trip should take about as long as Phileas Fogg’s original journey. Along the way, we’ll see friends and family, experience new places, take in unfamiliar sights and sounds, and discover the weird and wonderful parts of places we’ve never been before. No bets to win on timing—but we should come home with a solid collection of memories and stories.
And if you follow this blog, you won’t have to wait until we’re back. I can almost promise regular, up-to-date posts as the journey unfolds.
